About CAIO Role

Artificial intelligence is rapidly becoming a board-level and executive-level priority.

Many organisations recognise the opportunity but lack dedicated leadership to translate strategy into implementation, oversee adoption, manage governance, and maintain momentum over time.

A Fractional Chief AI Officer provides executive-level AI leadership without the cost, commitment, or organisational change required for a full-time executive hire.

As Fractional Chief AI Officer, Usman Zuberi works directly with leadership teams to help define AI priorities, guide implementation, oversee governance, and support the long-term evolution of organisational AI capability.

The role operates across strategy, implementation, governance, and adoption, ensuring AI initiatives remain aligned with business objectives and deliver measurable organisational value.

What the Engagement Includes

AI Strategy Leadership

Provide executive leadership across the organisation's AI agenda, helping define priorities, assess opportunities, and align AI initiatives with broader business objectives.

Opportunity Identification and Prioritisation

Identify and evaluate opportunities where AI can create meaningful business value, improve workflows, strengthen organisational capability, or support long-term growth.

Implementation Oversight

Oversee AI implementation activities regardless of whether delivery is undertaken by Perthshire, internal teams, technology vendors, or external partners.

Vendor and Platform Decisions

Support evaluation and selection of AI platforms, technology partners, vendors, and supporting infrastructure to ensure decisions remain aligned with organisational goals.

Governance and Risk Oversight

Help establish appropriate governance structures, operating standards, risk controls, and implementation guardrails required for responsible AI adoption.

Executive and Board Reporting

Provide ongoing reporting, communication, and strategic guidance to executive leadership teams, boards, and key stakeholders.

AI Adoption and Organisational Capability

Support organisational adoption by helping leadership teams build the structures, processes, and operating models required to embed AI capability over the long term.

The role is designed to help organisations navigate AI with clarity, discipline, and executive-level oversight. While every organisation's priorities and starting point are different, the objective remains the same: ensuring AI initiatives are aligned with business goals, governed appropriately, adopted effectively, and positioned to create lasting organisational value over time.
